Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 11.04.38 PMLoretta I. DeVincentis, 86, of Orange, beloved wife of the late Orlando “Pat” DeVincentis, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 3, 2016.

She was born on September 2, 1929 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Michael and Mary Riccio. More than anything, Loretta loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and her life revolved around her family.

Loretta is survived by her son, Michael DeVincentis; her grandchildren, Michael DeVincentis and his wife, Corrine, Michael McDevitt and his wife Sarah, and Megan Faith McDevitt; her great-grandchildren, Dominic and Adriana DeVincentis; and several nieces and one nephew.

Loretta was predeceased by her brother, Michael Riccio, Jr., her daughter, Laurene McDevitt, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and several aunts and uncles.

Friends and family may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Cody-White Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, Milford.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 378 Spring St., Orange.

Interment will follow at Orange Center Cemetery, Orange Center Rd., Orange.

Screen Shot 2016-05-11 at 7.00.08 PMTeresa Sakonchick, 88, passed away on Sunday May 8, 2016 at Mulberry Gardens in Plantsville. She was predeceased by her husband Stephen Sakonchick. They were married 66 years.

Mrs. Sakonchick was born in New Haven, CT on December 12, 1927 to Wallace A. Wills and Margaret (Kelaher) Wills. She was a longtime Orange resident.

She honorably served in the Civil Air Patrol during World War II. She was employed as a bookkeeper retiring well into her 70’s. One of her proudest accomplishments was earning an Associate of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 2006.

Mrs. Sakonchick is survived by four sons, Stephen Sakonchick II and his wife Monica of Austin, TX, James and his wife Carolyne of Cheshire, Donald and his wife Beth of Avon, John and his wife Francelia of Glastonbury and daughter Linda (Sakonchick) Kolpak and her husband Harold of Cheshire. She was blessed with grandchildren, whom she loved, Chad, Bryn, Brian, Judy Beth, Kelli, Lindsey, John, Tracy, Odin, Samantha and Jordan, as well as three great-grandchildren Elena, Lorenzo and James.

She was pre-deceased by her granddaughter Victoria; grandson Jared and sister, Dorothy.

There are no calling hours.

A private funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 11 at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Cheshire, 615 Main St, 06410. Burial will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.

doris curtissDoris Martin Curtiss, 86, of Orange, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2015, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Doris was the beloved widow of the late Howard Curtiss. She was born in New Haven on June 17, 1928, one of nine children of the late Leo and Elmire Martin. Raised in New Haven, she moved to Orange after her marriage and lived there for 60 years.
Doris was the devoted mother of Sally and Jeff (Boyd) Davis of Milford, Patty and the late Richard Vining of Milford, and Christine Curtiss and Dave Pelland of Orange.
She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Matthew Vining of Beacon Falls and Karina Davis of Milford, sisters Edith Quigley of West Haven and Edna (Marion) Crisafi and husband Buddy Crisafi of Branford, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by siblings Norman Martin, Rita Codeanne, Edgar Martin, Howard Martin, Evelyn Armstrong, and Robert Martin.
Prior to her illness, Doris enjoyed playing cards, going to the movies with her sisters, and spending time with her family. She was compassionate, caring and nurturing, and she always made everyone laugh.
Her family wishes to thank all of her caregivers, especially Natalia, whose care enabled Doris to live at home.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 8, from 5 – 7 p.m. at Keenan Funeral Home, 238 Elm Street, West Haven.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, on Monday, March 9, at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be in Orange Center Cemetery.

Loving mother of Alfred “Fred” (Ann) Brunetti of Guilford and Stephen (Deborah) Brunetti of East Lyme. Grandmother of Michael, Emma, James and John Brunetti.

Sister of Julia Mastrangelo and Rosemarie Celentano, both of Orange, Mary Baiocchi of North Haven, Gina Oliano of Washington Crossing, PA, Blanche Porto of Wellington, FL, Angelo DiNello of West Haven and the late Emma Lembo and Nicholas, Pasquale, Carl and Joseph DiNello. Also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

Marge was born in New Haven on May 8, 1923 daughter of the late Pasquale and Margaret Palmieri DiNello.

Prior to her retirement Marge worked in the billing department of the former S.N.E.T. and was also a union steward.

Friends may call at the Porto Funeral Home, 830 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven, Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

 

Her funeral procession will leave Porto’s Wednesday morning at 9:15 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church, 450 Racebrook Road, Orange at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.

Screen shot 2014-07-02 at 7.36.26 PMJohn B. Manfreda, 85, of Orange, devoted husband of 60 years to Marjorie Heinrich Manfreda, passed away suddenly, Monday, June 30.

Father of Dorothy Manfreda of Orange; Susan and her husband Michael Hanlon of Sherborn, MA, Edward Manfreda of Stamford, CT, and Nancy and her husband Jim DeLuca of Mason,OH; brother of Robert Manfreda of North Haven; and loving grandfather of John Villa, Claire and Megan Hanlon, Lauren, Myles and Ava DeLuca.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Mary, Joseph and Ralph Manfreda.

John was born in West Haven, CT, Feb. 2, 1929, son of the late Nicholas and Antoinetta Manfreda.

He was a Sergeant in the US Army from 1950-52.

After he received his B.S. Degree in education from SCSU in 1955, followed by his Master’s Degree in 1959, he taught elementary school in the town of Stratford for 32 years, retiring in 1989.

John was active in Youth Services for the town of Orange. His tireless commitment to his wife, children, and grandchildren leaves an indelible impression on their lives.

His memory will be cherished in their hearts forever.

Memorial service Thursday, July 3 at 10 a.m. at BEECHER & BENNETT-TAYLOR FUNERAL HOME, 410 Campbell Ave., West Haven.

Interment in Orange Center Cemetery.

Screen shot 2013-11-30 at 8.25.11 AMSusan Lewin, a beloved and respected member of the Board of Police Commissioners in Orange will be laid to rest today.

Susan, 52, died on Sunday, Nov. 24 after a brief illness.

Aside from her work as police commissioner, Susan was a passionate advocate of women and children, always looking for creative ways to encourage youth to fulfill their potential.

She leaves behind her husband Clement Lewin and daughter Sylvana here in Orange.

The Orange Volunteer Fire Department will honor her by hanging an American Flag over Orange Center Road by a ladder truck in front of Station One. 

Her funeral will be held at 11 am at the Orange Congregational Church, 205 Meetinghouse Lane.

Burial will follow in Orange Center Cemetery.
