caution-road-work-ahead-temporary-signJust as the town paving project, with road closures and upset residents finally concluded the town announced today that another paving project, this time, by the state, will begin on Monday, Aug. 3.

The CT Dept. of Transportation will be repaving Orange Center Road, all 3.3 miles of it from Route 1 to Derby Turnpike (Route 34) from Aug. 3 through Aug. 24.

The difference, aside from it being a state project rather than a town job, is that the work will be done at night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. in an attempt to save on the traffic interruptions.

Their job description is: 2″ to be ground off existing pavement and replaced by 2″ of bituminous concrete (a fancy term for asphalt).

Residents who live along Orange Center Road may be disturbed by the overnight noise, but this is how the state has scheduled it to be done.

This is NOT a Town Project, so don’t call the Highway Department with complaints, contact the CTDOT at 203-789-7842.

No one was hurt (near Lincoln Road) Dave sent in these photos

Two people, a driver and passenger exited their car after “smelling something,” and realizing something was wrong.

According to Fire Chief Charlie Gagel, they pulled over on Orange Center Road (in the area of Lincoln Road) and the two got out of the car, then discovered something was burning in the glove box area.

Firefighters arrived within minutes and the car was fully engulfed.

The flames were extinguished and all that remained was the charred metal of the vehicle, tires melted, paint burned off.

Thank goodness no one was hurt.
