Orange Youth Services will have a Parenting session on Social Media and its effects upon Elementary and Middle School students.

The free session will take place on Monday, May 22 from 7 to 8:15 p.m. in the High Plains Community Center Cafeteria. The presentation

The presentation will be given by Wendy Gibbons -LCSW, Program Director of the Milford Prevention Council.

Ms. Gibbons will discuss many issues of concern to parents in regard the influence of media and peer communications. There also will be a question and answer session.

Refreshments will be served.

kids-safetyOrange Youth Services is presenting a free Home Alone presentation for parents who would like to know Home Alone basics in order to prepare their children when they are left home alone.

Parents are invited to attend the presentation in the High Plains Community Center Cafeteria on Monday, June 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., which will include a question and answer segment as well.

Deputy Fire Marshal James Vincent will lead the presentation.

The event will cover items such as passwords, strangers, personal safety, playing outside, answering the door, and fire escape planning and options.

Refreshments will be served.

babysitter2.s600x600Youth Services is planning to have the next babysitting course on Thursday, April 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:15 pm. at the High Plains Community Center.

The course is for students ages 12-14 and offers a babysitting curricula and First Aid certification. Cost is $20.

Class limited to twelve students.

Youth Services will also offer another Artist Colony

Water Colors class with artist Audrey Galer on Monday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at High Plains.

All materials and instruction included. Class limited to twelve students. There is no cost to the program.

Parents need to contact John Ulatowski, Youth Services Coordinator at julatowski@orange-ct.gov to register their child for the course(s).

youthservicesYouth Services Parenting Presentation: Your Child’s Developmental Changes (ages 6-12) in the High Plains Community Center cafeteria on Thursday, March 19, 7:30-8:45 p.m. 

Youth Services will have an E-parenting session that offers parents a presentation by Dr Pei Juan Lei of Orange Pediatrics as the guest speaker.

Dr Lei will discuss the social, emotional, and cognitive changes that school-age “middle” years (ages 6-12) children face and how parents can play a vital role in their development.

Dr. Lei graduated from New York University in 2006 earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. In 2011, she graduated from the School of Medicine at the University of New York at Buffalo followed by the completion of her Pediatric Residency at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital in June 2014.

There also will be a question and answer session.

There is no charge for the event and snacks and refreshments will also be served.

All parents welcomed.

Retired seniors tutor Orange Elementary school children in English, Math, History, Science, Language Arts, and Study Skills.

Call John Ulatowski at 203-891-4785 to get onto the waiting list, or if you are a senior who would like to volunteer.

vintage_electric_guitarOrange Youth Services hosts “Super Raffle & Prize Bingo Pizza Party, Spot Shot, and Events Orientation” for the Orange new Incoming Seventh Graders at the High Plains Community Cafeteria, Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The event is for Orange’a incoming 7th graders and is funded by the Orange Lions Club.

Get super raffle prizes (new guitars, gift cards from local vendors) and play the winning Bingo cards.

Enjoy pizza and refreshments.

Special board games area also will be set up for all to enjoy.

In addition, a Spot-Shot contest will take place in the gym.

Learn about Youth Services activities. Parent chaperones welcomed.

Orange Youth Services and the Milford Prevention Council will present a Parenting program entitled Get Connected Into Your Child’s World of Social Media on Thursday, May 29, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the High Plains Community Center cafeteria.

The program is funded by an Enhancement grant from the State Department of Education.

Wendy Gibbons, Program Director of Milford Prevention Services will give the presentation.

Topics discussed will be focused on Social Media issues parents are most concerned about such as educating your child about the Internet, monitoring social networks, establishing rules, controlling mobile devices, and children having their own dedicated computer.

The program will be recorded by OGAT.

Admission is free and snacks and refreshment will be served.
