A Beautiful Day For A Strawberry Festival

Strawberry_Rhubarb_Pie-2The annual strawberry festival is bigger and better than ever with something for everyone: Amusement rides for the kids, hot dogs and burgers, crafters, entertainers and … um… Oh yes! Strawberries!

Although everyone knows how wonderful the strawberry shortcake is, you haven’t fully experienced the greatness of the festival until you’ve had one of the fresh baked strawberry rhubarb pies. My suggestion: buy a pie, THEN do everything else, because they do go quickly.

The sun is shining and the fairgrounds already are buzzing with activity. Sadly the one thing that I really looked forward to, and rearranged my entire schedule for has been canceled. It won’t affect anyone else, because nearly no one knew about it … but a flash mob with the Amity Dance Team and Festival Volunteers had been planned for this morning, but for some reason will not be going on. That would have been fun for all the unsuspecting festival-goers.

Orange Live will be back later with photos from the event and more.

Come on out and get your blood glucose level up at the Strawberry Festival on the Orange Fairgrounds until 6 p.m. tonight.

The Main Food Tent under the pavilion and the Satellite food tent near the fence at Orange Center Road are both run by the Orange Firefighters and all proceeds go to the fire department for their trucks, rescue equipment and other needs.

Five of the games are run by the firefighters and all money they take in goes directly to the department: the High Striker, Frog Bog, Blower Ball, Dunk Tank and Speedball.

There will be a FREE children’s raffle for fun prizes for boys and girls today, listen for the announcements.

Come back at 4:30 p.m. for all the excitement during the LIVE drawing of the winner of our Main Raffle. During the day pick up a ticket for $5 and boost your chance of winning. You must be in it to win it!
