Everyone was evacuated when local police and firefighters from Bethany, Orange and Woodbridge rushed there in response to the four-alarm fire.

Children and babies from the daycare center inside, along with members who were swimming when the fire broke out (and evacuated wearing only their bathing suits) were brought next door to the Brookdale Woodbridge Senior Living Facility where they could be safe and warm.

Ambulances remain on the scene just in case they are needed.

The tri-town Amity fire departments often work together on drills so when emergencies like this occur, they all work well together.

Route 63 was closed for several hours (a fire hose was hooked to a hydrant near Bond Road and ran up the long driveway to the facility).

The JCC will definitely be closed on Tuesday as there was a lot of smoke and water damage. If you are a member, or have business there, check the JCC website for up to the minute details.
