A winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. to noon on Saturday, March 2.

Three to five inches of snow is expected in Southern Connecticut.

Plan on slippery road conditions and be prepared to give yourself extra time if you are traveling anywhere.

Keep a safe distance from other vehicles on roadways and don’t forget to clean every inch of snow off your vehicle before hitting the road — the fine for not doing so won’t make you happy!

The Orange Highway Department has tested all its equipment, and the trucks are ready to roll when the first flakes fall this afternoon.

Highway Foreman Don Foyer said the town uses straight salt on the roads and they are all set to get out there to make things safe for drivers today.

“We can handle whatever comes and we’re ready,” he said.

Editor’s Note: The forecast along the coast is calling for a little less accumulation than inland areas, but slippery is slippery, so be careful out there this afternoon and evening.

If you can, stay home and off the roads. Even if you know your car can handle the conditions, there’s always someone out there that’s going to be in a hurry and a little reckless and that’s how accidents happen.

BEST-POLICE-Patch-EVER-275x300The Orange Police Department sent out the following message via Facebook.

We are expecting the arrival of our first significant winter weather event after midnight tonight (Friday). We should see accumulating snow up through early Saturday with a change to rain mid morning Saturday.

You should expect extremely slippery conditions during the event.

Our Town and State Highway crews expect to be out all night. Travel should be kept to a minimum.

As always, do not leave plowed snow in the roadway. On street parking is prohibited and cars are subject to tow.

Snowfall059After being spoiled by a fairly mild winter Mother Nature is really making up for lost time now.

At 2:13 a.m. I checked to see if it was snowing yet and I couldn’t even see my car. It looked like at least 1/4 inch already had fallen on my back porch and the back walk.

Snow is fine, it’s the ice that everyone is talking about that I’m not looking forward to.

Everyone stay safe, be careful when you step outside.

Below Freezing Temps and Fresh Snowfall = Slippery Commute

snow_truck_plow07_5185If you have to work tomorrow (President’s Day) be wary of black ice and slippery conditions.

The light coating of snow that fell tonight along with below-freezing temperatures are the recipe for dangerous travel conditions as anything that may have melted today will re-freeze.

Use caution and keep a safe distance between yourself and other cars while driving.

It’s not over yet. More snow is expected on Tuesday then rain at the end of the week.

All of this will add to the weight of the snow already sitting on your roof. If you can, remove the snow, or hire someone to do it before any damage is done.
