Labor Day weekend has a couple of things residents and visitors have been waiting for: The Greek Festival and the Labor Day Concert. Will Mother Nature cooperate and allow folks to enjoy these last 2 official days of summer, or will she rain on the parade?

If WTNH 8’s Sam Kantrow is correct in his report on WXEdge it seems that today’s warmer and more humid weather with some  heavy rain and moderate to severe thunderstorms may just ruin the holiday for anyone who’d made plans to attend one or both of the events in Orange.

If you are planning on going to the Greek Festival, remember that it opens at noon. You will have a couple of hours to have lunch and enjoy a performance by the Odyssey Dancers at 2 p.m. The dancers are scheduled to perform at 4:30 p.m. too, but be prepared, because a line of thunderstorms could start moving through a little after 5 p.m.

IMG_7648The Taste of Israel Bar-B-Q at 261 Derby Ave. from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. also may be adversely affected by this potential storm front.

The town’s Labor Day Concert at the Orange Fairgrounds Gazebo, 525 Orange Center Road from 7-9:30 p.m. also may be ruined. it’s scheduled to go on rain or shine, so bring your umbrellas or set yourself up under the pavilion.

As far as the final day of the Greek Festival, Kantrow said, “Tomorrow starts muggy again, some with a bit of fog. With a bit of sun, we’ll see some more t-storms during the afternoon but they’re not widespread.”

St. Barbara’s Greek Church saw perfect festival weather on Friday and Saturday. For now, we’ll just have to hold our breath and keep our eyes to the sky — hope for the best and get out as soon as the church grounds open at noon.
