It’s 11:45 p.m. and the thunderstorms have arrived.

Lightning is flashing brightly outside and the thunder is rattling the walls.

We were warned about these storms all day long and now they’re here.

Be prepared for possible power outages, as these storms have been said to be quite powerful, knocking down trees and causing a lot of other damage.

severe-thunderstorm-watchNBC Connecticut is reporting that thunderstorms are likely during the late afternoon or evening today.

Highs in the low 80s inland, high 70s along the shore. South winds 10-15 mph with higher gusts in storms.

Later tonight, showers and thunderstorms are likely, some of this could be on the STRONG side with frequent lightning and damaging winds.

We can expect clearing after 2 a.m. with lows near 60.

The weather for tomorrow’s Orange Independence Day concert and fireworks should be dry, comfortable and less humid.

If you are traveling, be aware that there is a    tornado watch in effect for Litchfield County     until 5 p.m. 

Locally, a severe thunderstorm warning is in 
effect until 4:45 p.m.  
According to the National Weather Service, some   thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy 
rainfall in the evening. 

Winds expected to be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 30mph.

According to the forecast by WTNH Meteorologist Gil Simmons the Labor Day weekend festivities in Orange will not be a washout, although humidity can be troublesome for some folks who tend to be more sensitive to it.

Friday may be the best day for the Greek Festival with temps in the high 70s to 82 degrees. It will be sunny, but humid.

On Saturday, we may see passing showers in the late morning or early afternoon, otherwise partly cloudy and highs in the 80s.

The weather should be fine for the concert at the fairgrounds at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, get to the festival in the afternoon, as showers or thunderstorms may pop up in the evening.

On Monday, Labor Day, sunny, with temps in the upper 70s to 80 degrees with late day rain possible.

The forecast looks great for the first day of school on Tuesday with cooler temps in the 70s.
