The Congregation Or Shalom Men’s Club is making Holocaust Remembrance Yellow Candles available to the public. The Yellow Candle is a special memorial candle that is lit on Yom HaShoah, which begins on the evening of Wednesday, April 11, 2018.
Almost two generations have passed since the Allied Armies liberated the Nazi concentration camps in 1945, which ended the greatest mass slaughter in history. The Jews who were murdered in Europe must never be forgotten. Entire families were extinguished and there was no one to say memorial prayers for them. So that these millions do not suffer a double loss — the loss of their lives and the loss of their memory, the Yellow Candle Program was developed to fulfill this mission.
The lighting of the Yellow Candle on April 11th will also remind our children, our future, and all who see it, that the Holocaust did happen and that it will never be forgotten!
Yellow candles are available by visiting the Or Shalom office between 10-3 on weekdays or by contacting the Yellow Candle Chair Mitch Goldblatt at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 203-795-4337.
While the candle is free, contributions help support Or Shalom’s Annual Kristallnacht Program, the Jewish Community Center of Greater New Haven’s Yom HaShoah program, New Haven’s Holocaust Memorial, and other meaningful remembrance programs.
