Walter T. “Murph” Orkis, age 92, of Hamden entered into rest on Sunday, May 27, 2012 at Whitney Manor in Hamden.

He was the beloved husband of the late Mary Lupone Orkis. Mr. Orkis was born in Derby on April 20, 1920 son of the late John and Mary Ornat Orkis and was an Orange resident for 52 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran during WWII. Mr. Orkis was the owner and operator of Murphy’s Dinette and May’s Wash and Dry Laundromat and later was a salesman at Dworkin Chevrolet. He was a member of the Derby Elks for 50 years and St. Michael’s Catholic War Veterans.

Mr. Orkis is the loving father of Mary Ann Triano and her husband Joseph of Hamden and Carol Ann Longo and her husband Peter of Terryville and brother of Harriett Bella of Baton Rouge, LA.

He is the loving grandfather of Maryann Long, Peter Longo, Kimberly Vogt and Linda Weisheit, great grandfather of, Brittney and Peter Longo, Taylor Long, Ben and Steven Vogt, Erik and Evan Weisheit. Mr. Orkis is predeceased by one brother and 5 sisters.

Friends may call on Friday from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. at the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby.

His funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday at 10:15 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church. His burial will be private.

The family requests that memorial contributions mat be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden CT06450-1004.
