Emergency Management Director Fred Palmer said High Plains Community Center and the Case Memorial Library are the two official Cooling Centers in the town of Orange.

The Library will be open during its regular hours: Monday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

High Plains Community Center will be open 8:30am to 10:00pm.

At 3:50 p.m., Community Services Director Carol Nardini said High Plains was nice and cool (at least in her wing) and she was very comfortable.

If you are suffering from the heat and humidity, please take advantage of either of these locations or visit a local business that has comfortable seating where you can buy a cool drink or a snack.

It is extremely important to stay hydrated in this kind of weather.

The Orange Ale House has wonderful lunch offerings and non-alcoholic beverages for its customers. The newly remodeled dining room is open and comfortable and COOL.

If it’s frozen treats that you desire, check out NuVita Frozen Yogurt. Both of these family owned community businesses have free WiFi and offer quiet relaxing areas in which to chat, eat or work.

Don’t suffer from the heat this summer, be smart, and let your neighbors and family members know if you are having any health issues so they can be there for you or send someone to help if you need it.
