Norvel W. “Brownie” Lloyd, 97, of Orange, entered into eternal rest on June 20, 2012, at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven. He was the beloved husband of Violet M. Cannata Lloyd.
Mr. Lloyd was born in Salisbury, CT on April 5, 1915, son of the late George and Minnie Vosburgh Lloyd.
A resident of Orange since 1956, he was employed as a machinist at Avco-Lycoming in Stratford for 28 years until his retirement in 1978.
He was a communicant of Holy Infant Church in Orange where he was a former member of its Catholic Men’s Club.
Norvel also was a proud former volunteer fireman in Orange for many years and volunteered at the annual Orange County Fair.
He was also a past member of the West Orange Civic Association and following his retirement, drove a school bus for several years. Brownie enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 2 daughters, Donna Cuthbert and her husband Stuart of Ocala, FL and Gail Cuomo and her husband Robert of Orange, 2 brothers, Donald Lloyd of MI, Charles Lloyd of OK, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth, Walter, John, and George Lloyd Jr. and sisters, Virginia Lloyd and Frances Cunningham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday June 23, 2012, at 9:00 am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI/BEDNAR-OSIECKI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Infant Church in Orange. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.
Visiting hours were held on Friday from 5-7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Brownie’s memory may be made to the Orange Volunteer Fire Association, 625 Orange Center Road, Orange, CT 06477. The family sends a heart-felt thank you to Orange V.N.A. and the several aides who helped care for Brownie the past few years.
