In addition to winning the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1 minute, 54.42 seconds last week during the Amity girls swim’s 101-85 victory over Lyman Hall, Dana Grindall set a new school record, erasing Margaux Farrell’s previous mark of 1:54.74. The Southern Connecticut Conference meet was held at the Orange Community Center Pool. Grindall also swam the anchor leg of the Lady Spartans’ victorious 200 free relay. That relay also included Madeline Snow, Hannah Babbitz, and Jessica Kochiss. Their winning time was 1:46.79. The Black and Gold also claimed second place as Dana Chung, Wendy Kenyon, Lindsay Morton, and Anna Lu posted a 1:51.46. Lu added a winning time of 5:13.70 in the 500 free and a second place 1:58.26 in the 200 free.
According to Coach Todd Rainey, “All the girls are swimming great. They all look like they love to race and are excited to be competing again. Dana (Grindall) and Anna (Lu) are off to outstanding starts.”
The meet began with Amity going 1-2 in the 200 medley relay. Shannon Early, Lydia Pokluda, Morton, and Snow won the race with a 1:57.54. Molleee Lasto, Hannah Flaherty, Melissa Gulia, and Babbitz logged a second place 2:03.47. Early also claimed the 200 individual medley with her 2:20.63 and was the first leg of the Lady Spartans’ winning 400 free relay. She combined with Brittany Smith, Liz Lubin, and Kenyon for a first place 4:14.16. Amanda Rossi, Sydney Formica, Katie Jensen, and Kelly Grindall recorded a second place 4:20.87.
Pokluda and Flaherty took first and second place in the 100 breaststroke with respective times of 1:14.99 and 1:15.03. Chung and Marina Shatskikh did the same in the 50 free with times of 26.59 and 27.17.
Carly Young (180.40), Gabby Syrop (156.05), and Nicole Guadagnoli (136.10) gave the Lady Spartans a sweep in the diving competition.
Morton was first in the 100 butterfly (1:03.73) and Guila added a third place 1:13.20. Lasto’s 1:05.72 was good for second place in the 100 backstroke and Jensen’s 1:13.32 gave her third place.
Amity takes its 2-0 record back to its home pool on Thursday for a 7 PM SCC meet against Hamden .
