A view from the Housatonic Overlook (Orange’s waterfront property).

As part of the CT Trail Days weekend, the Orange Conservation Commission will host a hike on the beautiful Housatonic Overlook and Tucker’s Ridge, Saturday, June 7. 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Set along the 200-foot eastern palisade of the Housatonic River, Tucker’s Ridge offers dramatic views of the Housatonic Valley and a variety of scenery along five beautiful trails. A bald eagle nesting area, the valley is rich with deer and other wildlife, forest tree species with an understory of mountain laurel, and picturesque rock.

Be prepared to encounter a steep bedrock descent and stream crossing before climbing up to a level inland trail; possible muddy areas in the northern wetland during wet periods.

The total distance is 0.75 miles.

Park and meet leader Sharon Ewen at the north entrance parking area, 672 High Ridge Road.

This trail day event will take place rain or shine. Dress appropriately and don’t forget to apply the tick spray.

 Pre-registration is not necessary.
