Screen Shot 2015-04-29 at 1.30.34 PMGloria Leahy, 70, of Orange, lost her long and courageous battle with cancer on April 28.

She is survived by her husband Jim, sister Janice Leibovitz, her husband Ken and their loving daughters Jennifer and Deanna.

The immediate family also includes Jim’s brother, psychologist Dr. Robert Leahy of New York City and his wife Helen.

She was born in Waterbury, CT on Feb. 7, 1945 the daughter of Manuel and Mary Carvalho, who are both deceased. Mrs. Leahy was an elementary school teacher in West Haven for 23 years and then a dental hygienist employed by Dr. Mark Berman of Woodbridge.

She received both her B.S and M.S. degrees from Southern Connecticut State University with honors, and her degree in Dental Hygiene from the Fones School at the University of Bridgeport. Gloria was on the faculty of UB immediately after graduating.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 30 from 4-7 p.m., at the West Haven Funeral Home, located at 662 Savin Ave in West Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Infant Church, Racebrook Road, Orange on Friday at 10 a.m.

Mrs. Leahy will then be laid to rest in the Mausoleum at St Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven.
