The Amity Spartans Lacrosse Team, under the leadership of Coach Brandon Pepe, have made a name for themselves indeed. No, they didn’t win the SCC title this year… but this afternoon they gave it all they had and won a spot in the state championship lineup by handily defeating West Haven in the CIAC qualifying round at Amity.
The Spartans flew ahead of the Blue Devils 4-1 in the first quarter and never looked back. They added 4 more goals in the second and 3 in the third, then topped it off with 2 final goals to West Haven’s 1 in the final quarter.
It was Amity 13-2 and now they go on to battle with their toughest opponents — Darien on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Darien High School.
“They are one of the premier high school programs in the country having won the past 2 state championships,” Coach Pepe said. “We are playing our best lacrosse at this point in the season and are ready to compete at our best Wednesday.”
Jake Milner and Brad Uscilla tied as the game’s high scoring player with 3 goals and 2 assists each; Matt DeLizio, Ian MacDonald, Matt Attolino, Sean Grenier and Mikey Cavanagh each made 1 goal and 1 assist; Adam Cusano and Tyler Vincent each made 1 goal and Cory Sachs had 1 assist.
Devan Hines and Jake Conlan each made 1 goal and Justin Tuschoff had 1 assist.
Amity far outshot West Haven 36-14.
The Blue Devils’ Goalie Ryan Pickering made 14 saves for West Haven; Amity’s goalies Matt Perrotti made 4 saves and later in the game, Brian Philibert made 3 saves.
