Screen Shot 2015-07-18 at 10.20.16 PMOn Monday, July 13 at about 11:05 a.m., the Orange Police responded to the area of 385 Boston Post Road on a report of a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival officers found a cyclist had been struck by a motorist exiting the driveway of 385 Boston Post Road, and had sustained minor injuries.

The investigation revealed that the cyclist was riding on the wrong side of the road, against traffic and the teen drivers’ view of him was obstructed by landscaping.

The cyclist was charged with 14-286(a) improper operation of a bicycle. The driver of the car was not cited.

All bicycle riders should be reminded to always ride with traffic as close to the right shoulder as possible or within marked bike lanes. Riders under the age of 15 must wear a DOT approved bicycle helmet. All other riders are strongly encourages to wear an appropriate helmet. Riders should consider reflective clothing while riding. Riders are required to follow all traffic laws, including stop signs and traffic signals.
