Adam and Dedra Leapley were inspired to create a specialized gym for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) based on their own experience of raising a child with ASD. In May 2014, the ASD Fitness Center, opened at 307 Racebrook Road.
The Center serves families in the greater New Haven area from ages 5 to young adult. The 5,000-square-foot fitness center is staffed by special education teachers with fitness certifications. Trainers provide one to one training with children as well as memberships for families in need and group classes. Scholarships provide children with access to a full gum membership, which includes two or three one-on-one sessions and a group class every week.
Prior to opening the center, Adam and Dedra founded The Bethany Leapley ASD Scholarship Fund.  The charity is a registered 501(c)(3) with the goal being to raise funds for families in need of financial support so they can send their children to the ASD Fitness Center to receive one on one personal training and attend small adaptive group classes.
Their largest annual fundraiser is a Wine and Beer Tasting event.  This year the 4th annual event will take place at St. Barbara’s Church, 480 Racebrook Road, on Saturday, April 22 beginning at 7 p.m.
