The Orange American Legion Post 127 baseball team traveled to Hamden for a double header on Sunday, June 25.

Our hometown boys were shut out in the first game but won the second one.

Orange Post 127 Loses Lead Early In Defeat

Orange Post 127 watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 10-0 loss to Hamden on Sunday at 9 a.m. Hamden took the lead in the first inning.

Hamden scored eight runs in the fourth inning. Hamden’s big inning was driven by two walks, an error, a single, and a double.

Hamden’s pitcher pitched five innings, giving up zero runs, zero hits, and striking out three. Teddy Hague took the loss for Orange. He went three and two-thirds innings, giving up nine runs, two hits, and striking out six.

Hamden was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.

Orange Wins Back-And-Forth Affair Against Hamden

In the second game at 11 a.m., Orange defeated Hamden 4-3 in a back-and-forth affair on Sunday. The game was tied at three with Post 127 batting in the bottom of the fourth when there was an error, scoring one run.

Post 127 earned the victory despite allowing Hamden to score three runs in the fourth inning.

Orange took an early lead in the first inning. Al Smith singled on the first pitch at-bat in the first inning, scoring two runs.

Post 127 took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth inning. In the fourth Andy Hague singled, driving in one run.

Mike Ficaro earned the win for Orange. He threw six innings, surrendering three runs, eight hits, striking out five, and walking one. Jared Smith recorded the last three outs to earn the save for Post 127.

Hamden’s pitcher took the loss for Hamden. He went six innings, surrendering four runs, eight hits, and striking out five.

Smith led Orange with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-3 on the day.

Hamden had eight hits in the game, three players, in particular, each collected hits for Hamden.
