On Saturday, January 27 the Amity High School wrestling team placed 8th out of 16 teams at the Ridgefield Challenge Tournament held at Ridgefield High School. A tournament where they saw some of the top teams from New York, Rhode Island, and Connecticut.
4 Amity wrestlers won medals in their individual weight classes. Senior captain Matt Rothman placed second at 152 lbs., Justin Griffin placed 3rd at 285 lbs. While senior captains Christian Chadwick 113 lbs. and Sam Keylock 160 lbs. placed 4th. Head Coach Ryan Roddy said “The entire team wrestled tough led by captains Christian Chadwick, Matt Rothman, and Sam Keylock. Juniors Justin Griffin and Andrew Seaton, Sophomore Simon Flaherty and Freshman Josh Foote all had key victories to help the team to an 8th place finish. Coach Roddy believes this tournament was a great test for his wrestlers before the SCC and State Class L tournaments arrive. “This gives each wrestler a good idea of the things they need to work on going into the end of the year tournaments.”
Amity wrestling will be back in action on Tuesday, January 30th at 6:00, for its last home meet of the season, to take on Notre Dame of West Haven at Amity High School in an SCC B division match up with Amity looking to remain undefeated in the conference.
