Mike Southworth, the Republican Candidate for the 14th State Senate District (Milford, Orange, West Haven, and Woodbridge) calls on Senator James Maroney (D) to vote against the current form of the Police Accountability Bill (HB 6004)
In a statement, Southworth wrote: “As a first responder I am deeply troubled by the passage of the police reform bill in its current form through the statehouse. The legislation in its current form repeals qualified immunity and would significantly hinder law enforcement in their pursuit of protecting communities.
“If passed by the State Senate, this bill could potentially force officers who put their lives on the line for us to pay out of pocket for insurance for simply doing their job,” he wrote. “Additionally, given that the amendment to block repealing qualified immunity failed in a tie, it is clear that this matter is among the most divisive in our general assembly. I am calling on State Senator James Maroney to vote against this legislation and stand with first responders.”
