Orange police responded to a shoplifting complaint at Target, 25 Boston Post Road, on Sept. 10 at 2:54 p.m.

According to the report, the incident had just occurred, and officers were given a description of the shoplifter, whom they immediately located in the store parking lot.

Police said, William E. Mcelveen, 67, of New Haven, was accused of taking $392.80 worth of merchandise without paying for it. He was taken into custody and charged with sixth-degree larceny.

Mcelveen was released on a promise to appear in court on Dec. 16.
