The Amity Girls Basketball team got out of the gates strong earning a road victory, 55-37 over Lyman Hall.

The team got out to a fast start leading 16-7 after one quarter and 26-19 at the half. With a great defensive effort and unselfish play on the offensive end, they built a ten-point lead going to the fourth
quarter and never looked back.

Amity had three players in double figures led by Junior Sarah Granados with 20 points, Sophomore Jillian Barnes with 15 and Senior Jayne Whitman 10 points.

Other Spartans in the scoring column included Sophomore Vivian Cain with 6 points and Senior Victoria Gaydos with 4 points. Senior Captain Meredyth Laskowski was a big factor on the defensive end all night long. The Spartans made 4 shots from long distance as well to kick off the season.

Amity vs Hamden

In their second game of the season Amity hosted a very athletic Hamden team. Amity was down early 14-8 as Hamden came out hot.

Amity played a strong second quarter but found itself down 25-17 at the intermission.

Hamden kept the pressure on in the second half getting to the rim often and coasted to a 52-36 victory.

Amity was led by Jayne Whitman and Sarah Granados each with 9 points, Vivian Cain tallied 8 points and Jillian Barnes and Victoria Gaydos with 6 and 4 points respectively.

Amity vs Masuk

Game three of the season took Amity on the road to Monroe to play in the annual holiday tournament, this year hosted by Masuk. In a low scoring first half with each team digging in defensively Amity found
itself tied at 13-13 at the break.

Masuk came out strong in the third quarter as Amity just could not get the ball to go in the basket and took a 23-19 lead into quarter number four.

The Spartans came out determined in the final period with some key steals by Sarah Granados, Jayne Whitman, and Jillian Barnes along with two long three-point field goals by Whitman and a key lay up by Vivian Cain to build a five-point lead that ultimately led to a 36-33 victory and a berth in the holiday tournament championship versus Trumbull, who beat Bethel earlier in the evening.

Amity got strong defensive efforts in the paint from Meredyth Laskowski, Vivian Cain, and Victoria Gaydos and a strong contribution from Lucci Dottori off the bench.

Granados led Amity with 15 points, Whitman had 10 and Barnes 5.

Amity vs Trumbull

In the holiday tournament championship Amity took on a very talented Trumbull team and went toe-to-toe with the pre-season ranked top 10 team.

It was a defensive battle all evening that saw Amity down 14-7 after one period and 16-12 at the half. It was a 5-point game late in the third quarter at 25-20, but Trumbull closed the period on a 6-0 run to take a 11-point lead into the further quarter.

Amity just had many great looks in the second half, but the ball just would not find the bottom of the net as Amity lost 41-26 in a game that was much closer than the final score and finished as holiday tournament runner-up’s.

Victoria Gaydos tallied 8 points for Amity, Jayne Whitman had 6 points, 5 each from Sarah Granados and Meredyth Laskowski who led a fierce effort in the paint along with Vivian Cain. Whitman and Granados were also selected to the All-Tournament Team.
