An early lead helped Orange Post 127 defeat West Haven 8-1 on Thursday in West Haven. Orange scored on singles by Al Smith, Tyler Appel and Quentin Pitter in the first inning.

Orange scored three runs in the second inning. The big inning was thanks to an error and a double by Tyler Appel.

Ben Lodewick earned the win for Post 127. He threw six innings, surrendering one run, seven hits, and striking out three. One of West Haven’s pitchers tossed one inning, surrendering one run, zero hits, and striking out one.

Another West Haven pitcher started the game for his team, threw four innings, giving up seven runs, and 12 hits.

Orange collected 12 hits. Smith, Andy Hague, and Appel each made multiple hits for the home team. Appel, Hague, and Smith all had two hits to lead Orange. Post 127 was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Lodewick made the most plays with two.

West Haven had eight hits in the game.

NOTE: The game was delayed for a minute or two when a beaver made its way onto the field and was given time to leave so it wouldn’t get hurt.

Post 127 plays again on Saturday, June 24 at 10 a.m. and noon at Old Tavern Park in Orange, weather permitting.

Teddy Hague SAFE at second

Orange Post 127 defeated West Haven 10-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Teddy Hague induced a groundout to finish off the game.

Adam Hurwitz led Orange to victory by driving in four runs. He went 3-for-4 at the plate. Hurwitz drove in runs with a double in the third and a double in the sixth.

Post 127  captured the lead in the first inning. Al Smith homered on the first pitch at-bat in the first inning, scoring two runs.

Orange scored four runs in the third inning. The big inning was thanks to a double by Hurwitz, a single by Zach Cole and another single.

A single in the first inning was a positive for West Haven.

Jared Smith earned the win for Orange. He threw four innings, surrendering zero runs, six hits, and striking out two. One of West Haven’s pitchers pitched three and one-third innings, surrendering seven runs, seven hits, and striking out one.

Post 127 collected 11 hits. Hurwitz, Smith, and Quentin Pitter each had multiple hits for Orange, and the team didn’t commit a single error in the field.

Orange American Legion Post 127 Baseball

Orange Legion Post 127 baseball is now in 1st place in Zone 2 in CT.

This weekend they are are on fire while playing in the Firecracker Tournament in Providence, R.I.

From Denise Mirto (in Rhode Island for the Tourney) “They won their first game Friday. Beat Cheshire Legion 6-4.”

“They won their second game at the Firecracker Tournament on Saturday. Beat Tri County Eagles From NY 7-2.”

And finally today, (Sunday) “Orange Legion wins again in Rhode Island. Shutout Duchess NY a Legion team from Middletown NY 3-0.”

She said, “They are playing Team CapeCod tomorrow (Monday, July 2).”
