On Tuesday  Feb. 18, the Blades (Amity/North Haven/Cheshire) Girls Ice Hockey team was on the road in West Haven for a match up with the West Haven/Sacred Heart Sharks.

This was a spirited game with a lot of action, but in the end the Sharks chomped the Blades 7-5.

First Period

The first period started off a bit shaky with West Haven’s Brooke McNabola making the first goal of the game on an assist from Jenna Hunt. McNabola struck again, bringing the score to 2-0.

Then it was the Blades’ Turn to show what they had. Haley Cable scored, assisted by Nadia DiNatale. Tess Csejka tied the game with an unassisted goal. Then Cable and DiNatale pulled the Blades into a 3-2 lead.

 

 

Second Period

In the second period McNabola wasted no time in getting a hat trick off an assist from Taylor Nowak. Then it was Jenna Hunt’s turn with an unassisted goal, followed by Jianna Cohrs pulling the Sharks into a 5-3 lead.

Tess Csejka made her second unassisted goal and then Sammy Drane tied the game at 5-5 assisted by Sara Cable.

 

 

Third Period

The third period belonged to West Haven. Nowak scored, assisted by Megan Froehlich, then Emilee Degrand rounded out the game with the final goal assisted by Jenna Hunt.

Next Up

Next Up for the Blades are the SCC Semi-Finals at their Home rink in Hamden at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26.

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, the Blades (Amity-North Haven-Cheshire) Ice Hockey team, took on Notre Dame – Fairfield (ND Fairfield-Law-Foran-Weston-Pomperaug) on their new home ice at the Hamden Ice Rink.

Our Blades played hard, but Notre Dame had the upper hand in this match-up, scoring one goal in each period (each one assisted by Laura Dennigan).

Notre Dame outshot the Blades 29 – 22.

Our Goalie, Caitlin Ranciato made 26 saves, and Notre Dame’s goaltender made 22 saves.

Team Records: Notre Dame 3-0, Blades 0-2

It’s still early in the season, and our girls have time to practice and improve on any weaknesses they may have.

The next shot they have will be on Saturday, Dec. 15 vs Guilford at the East Haven Ice Rink at 5:45 p.m.

After back to back to back victories for the Blades Girls Ice Hockey team, Wednesday, Dec. 20 brought the girls a hard fought game that ended in the team’s first loss of the season.

Hamden broke a 1-1 tie to win the game in Shelton 2-1.

But, you can’t keep a great team down and on Saturday, Dec. 23, the Blades were back on track with a 4-2 victory over Branford-East Haven-North Branford in Shelton.

Our girls now have a record of 4-1. They will be on the road in Enfield on Wednesday, Dec. 27 with a start time of 4:20 p.m.

The Blades (Amity-Cheshire-North Haven) Girls Ice Hockey team hosted the Simsbury Titans at the Rinks in Shelton on Thursday night.

Meghan Hogan (22) of Cheshire scored the first goal in the first thee minutes  of the game. Hailey Cable (28) brought the score to 2-0 at 2:31, followed by Amity’s Grace Kosh (20) at 2:03. First period score 3-0 Blades.

The second period was scoreless and then with just 35 seconds remaining in the third period, the Titans’ Mackenzie Lynch (14) shot an unassisted goal to keep her team from being shut out.

Blades win 3-1

Shots: Amity 13, Simsbury 37

The Blades Goalie Andrea DelVecchio made 36 saves in this game.

Records: Amity 7-5, Simsbury 5-5

img_0787Amity High School does not have its own Girls’ Ice Hockey team, but our tri-town girls work in combination with other talented athletes from North Haven High School and Cheshire High School to make up the Blades.

The Blades is a force to be reckoned with, the players (by school) are:

Amity: Alaina Sefian (2), Andrea DelVecchio (3),Hannah Sosensky (4), Bailey MacNamara (10), Stephanie Satonick (11), Co-Captain Peri Sosensky (12), Gina Driscoll (13), Jena Casman (19), Grace Kosh (20), and Olivia Dittman (21)  [Andrea DelVecchio Goalie]

Cheshire: Rachael Kozak (6), Co-Captain Emily Gotowola (15) and Meghan Hogan (22)

North Haven: Goalie Julianna Daddio (1), Jackie Howlett (5), Kiley Degrand (7), Erin Owens (8), Maryssa Racino (14), Jamie Fredericks (16), Co-Captain Catherine Babbidge (17), Kyla DelVecchio (18), Shannon Reilly (24) and Katelyn St. Peter (26).

The Girls had their first win last week — 4-2 against Ridgefield/Danbury on their home ice at The Rinks at Shelton.
