The Blades’ Abby Fitol made some heroic saves during the Jan. 10 game.

The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven Blades Girls Ice Hockey team has had some setbacks with injuries and even lost their goalie (to an injury) this season. But on Monday, Jan. 10, they took to the ice at the Bennett Rink in West Haven against the West Haven/Sacred Heart Sharks with hope and determination.

Amity Sophomore Abby Fitol stepped up to take on the role of goaltender for the first time, and to her credit, she did a phenomenal job in a very stressful position, making 30 saves against a very good opposing team.

The Sharks won 7-2

The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven Blades Girls Ice Hockey team faced off against West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy at the Edward Bennett Rink in West Haven on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Much like the Boys’ first game, there was no score at the end of the first period

The Westies/Sharks put on their game faces when they returned to the ice for the second. Mackenzie Gardner scored the first goal, assisted by Emilee Degrand.

Next, West Haven’s Mia Celentano brought it to 2-0 on an assist from Maya Boyen.

With their opponents ahead by two, Amity came out with a strong desire to catch up and overcome their opponents, gameplay was fast and furious, but, once again, West Haven scored first in the third period this time with Degrand, assisted by Geena Montano.

Finally, it was the Blades’ turn with Avery DePodesta scoring off an assist from Amelia Launder (21). But that was it for the Amity and friends team.

West Haven’s Ann Plunkett slapped in the final goal, assisted by Jenna Hunt, and Montano.

West Haven Wins 4-1.

West Haven outshot the Blades 46-25

Saves: Blades, Ginny Currello 42; WH/SH Grace Nowak 24
