In a season like no other during a national pandemic, Coach Michelle Shoop’s Lady Spartans have gotten off to a strong 3-0 start to kick off the season. Returning a seasoned group of talented athletes, the team has benefited from their prior experience competing together, a collective defensive grit, timely shot-making, and a team-first attitude.

In their next game, the Lady Spartans traveled to Milford to take on a tough Jonathan Law team. After a slow start, which saw the team trailing by as much as eleven points.  Amity hung tough led by Becky Marchitto’s 10 points to be down by nine at the half 28-19.  The team responded in the third quarter with a tremendous defensive effort baseline- to- baseline led by the scrappy Meghan Smith along with Sarah Granados and Mya Manzione. Strong shot-making by Skylar Burzynski, Sophia Swift, and Jayne Whitman got the team back to even on the scoreboard going to the fourth quarter. In a back-and-forth affair, the Lady Spartans got a big bucket from Burzynski to take the lead until it was tied again until a huge three-point shot late in the game from Swift gave the team the lead that ended in a hard-fought 45-40 win. Marchitto led all scorers with 10 points, along with 9 each for Swift and Burzynski, Manzione and Whitman chipped in with 6 points each, as did Meghan Smith with 3 and Sarah Granados 2.
