The Covid-19 virus has not been kind to anyone. During its reign of terror we’ve lost many precious Orange residents. During the long months of isolation, we yearned for the days when we could hug our parents, friends, children and grandchildren among others.

We also lost so many opportunities to gather with family, friends and neighbors, including the 2020 annual Orange Country Fair.

Although masks are no longer required in outdoor settings in most places, some, who are aware of the very real possibility of contracting the extremely contagious Delta Variant, choose to continue wearing one. It’s a choice, and as long as everyone is respectful of one another, either decision is acceptable.

Get Ready For The Orange Country Fair

The Orange Country Fair is a tradition in town, and every year it goes off seamlessly.

People may think that it’s because it’s been going on so long that it’s easy to set up and run. But it takes a village to organize such a huge two-day event and make it entertaining and successful.

On Monday, the Orange Country Fair Committee met to discuss plans for this year’s fair.

The event will take place at the Orange Fairgrounds, Sept. 20 (with the tractor pull and contest entry drop-offs), Sept. 21-22.

A Boy Scout has chosen to make benches for his Eagle project, [like the green ones shown in the photo] and they will be ready in time for the fair, so guests will have a comfortable place to rest at the fairgrounds.

Those members who’ve been in charge of specific contests or other areas of the fair know what they have to do. For example, as always, Bobby Fantarella is rounding up the entertainment for the weekend.

The Committee is hoping to obtain a few more Little Tykes Cozy Coupes for the little kids’ “Driving School.”

This is a good time for students to gather up their dioramas, photos, artwork or collections, including any that they may have made as school projects prior to summer vacation. There are so many areas of the fair where plants or any of the above-mentioned items can be entered and displayed for a chance to earn a ribbon.

Adults, too, start cultivating your plants and flowers and working on your photos, crafts, or artwork. Maybe this will be your year to take home a Best-In-Show Ribbon.

Remember that the fair runs smoothly with volunteer help. Consider clearing your calendar for a few hours on Sept. 21-22 to help out in the food tent this year. Your participation will be greatly appreciated.

One of the cutest fair book covers ever.

Jeff Cap has been working hard to get all the information you need about the Orange Country Fair up on the official Fair Website. and now it’s ready.

You can download a PDF of the fair booklet and get your contest registrations in early.

Mark your calendar for all of your favorite fair events and get ready to have a great time.

Bobby Fantarella is ready to emcee the pig races and is coming up with excellent “race names” for the contestants.

One event that will be missing this year is the horse show because no one stepped up to run it.

Something totally new is, while everyone is dropping off thier entries on Friday night the first event will be going on in the lower fairgrounds.
