Samantha Drane makes the first goal of the game

The (Amity-North Haven-Cheshire) Blades played an Away game against Masuk at the Sports Center of CT Rinks on Sunday, Feb. 21.

The Blades are a pretty solid team under coach John Peschell. This is the kind of game we like to see our teams play. The girls were pumped and determined, playing at the top of their skill set.

This showed on the scoreboard.

In the first period, Samantha Drane made the first goal just 4:29 after entering the ice giving the Blades a 1-0 lead that held steady through the period and the Blades goaltender, Ginny Currello, made 11 stops.

Second Period

The Blades were on fire when they came back for the second period, Kelsey McCarthy wasted no time scoring for her team at 13:45, assisted by Drane.

Stunning Masuk, the Blades scored again just 23 seconds later, this time by Abi Fitol, assisted by Mia Dow.

Score after two Blades 3, Masuk 0.

Third Period

Fitol scored her second goal 2:46 into the third period off an assist from Avery DePodesta.

The Blades retained their 4 point lead and it looked like it was going to be a shut-out until the last 30 seconds of the game.

Currello made a masterful dive to stop the puck then in a split second with only 25.8 seconds remaining Masuk’s Amanda Quinn sneaked one past her, assisted by Izzy Thomas and Avery Dayton.

Final Score Blades 4, Masuk 1

Saves:

Blades: Ginny Currello 21

Masuk: Eva Smith 27

The Amity/Cheshire/North Haven Blades Girls Ice Hockey team faced off against West Haven/Sacred Heart Academy at the Edward Bennett Rink in West Haven on Tuesday, Feb. 16.

Much like the Boys’ first game, there was no score at the end of the first period

The Westies/Sharks put on their game faces when they returned to the ice for the second. Mackenzie Gardner scored the first goal, assisted by Emilee Degrand.

Next, West Haven’s Mia Celentano brought it to 2-0 on an assist from Maya Boyen.

With their opponents ahead by two, Amity came out with a strong desire to catch up and overcome their opponents, gameplay was fast and furious, but, once again, West Haven scored first in the third period this time with Degrand, assisted by Geena Montano.

Finally, it was the Blades’ turn with Avery DePodesta scoring off an assist from Amelia Launder (21). But that was it for the Amity and friends team.

West Haven’s Ann Plunkett slapped in the final goal, assisted by Jenna Hunt, and Montano.

West Haven Wins 4-1.
