Three meals and one fabulous loaf of bread at the Redfish Grill

After hearing so many wonderful things about the Redfish Grill, I thought it was time to try it out myself.

Last Saturday, Jan. 18, I had planned to dine with a friend, but when that fell through, I called my brother (former restaurant reviewer Ron Haas) and my mom, the most particular diner I know, and asked them to join me at the Redfish Grill.

When we entered the restaurant, the hostess was friendly and we were seated immediately, even though the place was fairly crowded. (just 6 empty tables)

Our waiter introduced himself in about a minute and quickly delivered our beverages.

He took our orders and answered any questions we had about the sides.

When he delivered our loaf of freshly baked bread [1] with seasoned dipping oil, the three of us dove right in and each of us had the same impression “perfect.”

My mom ordered the Grilled Scottish Salmon with the two sides — Jasmine Rice and Grilled Asparagus [4].

She raved about the salmon, which was, you guessed it, “perfect” and truly appreciated the thin, tender young asparagus.

My mom has sent food back to the kitchen at other restaurants, but not this time. That is a very good sign and a great compliment to the chef.

My brother ordered the Seafood Casserole, [3] a tempting combination of scallops, shrimp, lobster, scrod and cheese baked with sherry garlic butter cream sauce. For his side, he too, chose the asparagus.

He said the nice thing about it was that each of the four seafood selections were cooked to perfection and none was lost in the sauce, each held its own distinct flavor and it was delicious. When the seafood was gone, he had a wonderful dipping sauce for the bread.

I usually stay away from the fried food, but I wanted to get something different from the other two in my party so we could all discuss the different types of dishes the Redfish Grill had to offer.

I ordered the fried sea scallops, which came with french fried potatoes and cole slaw.

The scallops were not overly breaded, big, juicy, flavorful and cooked just right. The tartar sauce was very good too. I don’t generally eat fries, but the ones I was served were hearty slices, lightly browned and you couldn’t eat just one.

I prefer creamy cole slaw, but even though theirs was a different style, it also was very good.

All of us were full and more than satisfied with the quantity of food for the price.

My mom brought home a “doggie bag” and left with a smile on her face.

The servers were attentive without being overwhelming.

So, was anything not perfect about the Redfish Grill? Well, yes, we did notice one thing. The music that was playing was not relaxing. A lot of it was jazz and it was a bit loud for a Saturday night dinner.

Other than that, my family and I highly recommend the Redfish Grill. We will be back.
