A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. this evening.
Anticipate damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and higher. Secure any loose objects that could become missiles.

In addition, there is potential for localized to scattered areas of flash flooding Thursday afternoon into evening ahead of and along a slow moving cold front.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Southern Connecticut which will be in effect from noon on Monday, June 28 to 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

You may expect heat index values of up to 104 degrees. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

Be aware that the highest index values will occur during the afternoon and early evening hours.

The heat advisory may need to be extended into Tuesday. It will be cooler along the shoreline with temps in the upper 80s and low 90s, but the humidity will make it unbearable for many. Plan ahead and be prepared. Drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine and alcohol.

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Thursday, Sept. 6 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The highest heat is expected to be during the afternoon, generally between 1 and 5 p.m.

Extreme heat can cause illness and death among the at-risk population who cannot stay cool. The heat and humidity may cause heat stress during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

An advisory is issued when a hazardous weather or hydrologic event is occurring, imminent or likely.

In addition, scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.  Some storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain.

The heat index could reach 100 degrees.

Cooler, less humid weather is expected Friday through Sunday.

On day 5 of the heat wave, an excessive heat advisory is in effect for our area, meaning that although the temperatures may be in the low 90s it may feel like it’s more like the upper 90s or low 100s.

If you have respiratory problems, especially children, elderly folks and pregnant women should take extra precautions to safeguard your health as the air quality is poor.

Seek refuge in a cool place, Orange has two cooling centers: the library and High Plains Community Center.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. drink Water and try to stay away from diuretics like coffee and alcohol.

Make sure your pets always have clean cool water available. One fill-up in the morning is not good enough, dust, fur and dirt can get into the water after your pet has a couple of drinks.
