Winter weather alert is in effect for later this week:

The weather forecast shows another winter storm to help complicate our schedules again this week.

On Thursday look for scattered snow showers early with steadier snow developing late in the day.

The high will be near 30F with NE winds at 10 to 15 mph. The chance of snow is 70%. Snow accumulating 1 to 3 inches.

Periods of snow in the evening will transition to a wintry mix overnight. The temperature will drop to a low of 26F with NE winds at 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. Prepare for 3 to 5 inches of snow and ice.

Continuing through Friday

Look for a mixture of winter precipitation in the morning. Then snow mixing with rain at times in the afternoon.

The temperature will be nearly steady in the mid-30s with NNE winds at 10 to 15 mph. The chance of precip is 80%. Snow and ice accumulations of less than one inch during the day.

During the evening, expect scattered snow flurries and snow showers before midnight. Becoming partly cloudy later. The low will dip down to 23F. The NW winds will remain at 5 to 10 mph. The chance of snow is 30%.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

Mixed precipitation is expected with total snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of less than a tenth of an inch throughout this evening until 10 a.m.

Difficult travel conditions are possible due to icy roadways, especially tonight into early Sunday.

Use caution if you must drive tonight, keep a safe distance between yourself and other vehicles on the road. Make sure your cell phone is charged in case you need to call for help.

Carry a warm blanket in your vehicle, temperatures will only be in the upper 20s, so you will need something to help stay warm if you get stuck.

winter-weather-advisoryA Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 3 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility and use caution while driving.

What to expect:

Ice accumulations up to around 1/10 inch with snow accumulations of less than 1/2 inch.

Southwesterly winds 5-10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph.

Temperatures in the mid to upper 20s tonight, rising to the upper 30s by 1 p.m. Monday.

Precipitation develops after midnight. The heaviest of the wintry precipitation will fall during the morning commute.

Precipitation changes to plain rain by Monday afternoon.

Hazardous travel is expected Monday morning due to icy roadways and walkways.

Be prepared to leave a few minutes earlier for wherever you are going and drive at a reasonable speed leaving plenty of room between yourself and other vehicles.

Remember to downshift to a lower gear if necessary and never slam on your brakes if you’re on slippery roads.
