Full Moon (by Kevin Travis)

The next full Moon will occur on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 3:12 p.m., and is known as the Full Strawberry Moon.

This name was universal to every Algonquin tribe. Also because the relatively short season for harvesting strawberries comes each year during the month of June. So the full Moon that occurs during this month was christened for the strawberry!

Today, check out the mini strawberry full moon.

The word Supermoon has been so overused in the past few years that it’s refreshing to hear the term minimoon for a change.

So, why minimoon? The moon is far away from Earth and appears to be about 7% smaller than the average full moon.

The Native Americans call the June full moon the Strawberry Moon because this it the time of year when strawberries are harvested.

By the way, don’t forget, the Strawberry Festival takes place on the Orange Fairgrounds on Saturday, June 10 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(so, if you’re going to the Amity Baseball game in Middletown at noon, stop by the Strawberry Festival and pick up a strawberry shortcake or a wonderful strawberry rhubarb pie before you leave town)
