As the snow began to accumulate outside, Orange Volunteer Firefighters knew they could be in for a busy night, but it didn’t take long for the first call to come in.
At 3:55 p.m. a woman called 911 to report a fire in the kitchen of her home on Sunset Drive.
The police dispatcher was trying to get the woman to provide information and leave the house when they lost contact.
Deputy Fire Marshal Jamie Vincent was first to arrive and confirmed it was a structure fire. A second alarm went out 4 minutes after the initial call.
Sunset Drive is just up the street from Fire Station #2 on the Boston Post Road.
The roads were slippery and a Highway Department Plow Driver led the way for the fire trucks, clearing the road along the way.
Firefighters had the fire knocked down by 4:05 p.m., then checked the walls and ceilings for any hot spots and ventilated the smoke out of the house.
By 4:31 p.m. all trucks and personnel had returned to the stations.
