Orange Volunteer Firefighters are enroute to 7 New Haven Avenue for a kitchen fire with heavy smoke.

The first tone went out around 7 52 p.m. followed by a second tone around 7:55 p.m.

The Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Department has been called to cover for Orange at the firehouse.

The Firefighters signed off from the scene around 8:30 p.m.

Although I could not make contact with the fire marshal or deputy fire marshal for details on this or last week’s house fires. It sounds like this one was a cooking mishap.

It’s a strange coincidence, I’m sure, but a quick search on Orange Live (it took 2 seconds) and I discovered that yesterday’s house fire at 4 p.m. on Sunset Drive fell on the same date as a much worse fire that occurred at 1 a.m. on Hawthorne Lane.on Jan. 21, 2013.

The fire on Sunset started in, and was contained to the kitchen area. Firefighters were able to extinguish it quickly, within 15-20 minutes of arrival, and no one was hurt.

The Hawthorne Lane fire likely began in a wood-fired boiler. The firefight went on for more than an hour.

The family fled to safety before firefighters arrived and no one was hurt, but the family did lose everything.

I certainly hope that these two 1-21 house fires are the end of the line for incidents on this date. No matter how minor the damage, house fires are terrifying and leave a long, lasting impression on the homeowners (and firefighters).

thAs the snow began to accumulate outside, Orange Volunteer Firefighters knew they could be in for a busy night, but it didn’t take long for the first call to come in.

At 3:55 p.m. a woman called 911 to report a fire in the kitchen of her home on Sunset Drive.

The police dispatcher was trying to get the woman to provide information and leave the house when they lost contact.

Deputy Fire Marshal Jamie Vincent was first to arrive and confirmed it was a structure fire. A second alarm went out 4 minutes after the initial call.

Sunset Drive is just up the street from Fire Station #2 on the Boston Post Road.

The roads were slippery and a Highway Department Plow Driver led the way for the fire trucks, clearing the road along the way.

Firefighters had the fire knocked down by 4:05 p.m., then checked the walls and ceilings for any hot spots and ventilated the smoke out of the house.

By 4:31 p.m. all trucks and personnel had returned to the stations.
