unnamed-300x225Lauren Richetelli held her second annual toy drive to benefit the children St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

The Amity High School freshman created posters and flyers requesting toys or monetary donations that were put up around the school, and distributed to 600 students at Amity Middle School.

In addition, boxes for toy donations were placed in the school’s offices, and a press release was distributed asking for community donations.  Lauren then appealed to family and friends by mailing the flyer to more than 50 families.

The response from the community was incredible!  Detective Mike Kosh of the Orange Police Department dropped off a large contribution of toys to Amity Middle School.  Lauren received monetary donations totaling $920, including a $250 grant from the Rotary Club of Orange, used to purchase toys, books, accessories, and gift cards.

The collection boxes brought in 111 toys and gifts.  Lauren sent 273 items to St. Jude’s in December, making for a tremendously successful project.

The Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Central Connecticut donated $200 to help with the shipping costs.

Lauren would like to thank all the members of the community who contributed.

Lauren Richetelli, 13 of Orange made this past holiday season a little brighter for kids suffering with cancer and other diseases by organizing a toy drive to benefit children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Amity Middle School 8th grader saw a commercial asking for donations for St. Jude’s in November. She went to work immediately, enlisted the help of a couple friends, by creating a flyer requesting toys or monetary donations and received permission from the school to distribute the flyer to all 600 middle school kids and also place a box for toy donations in the school’s office.

Lauren then appealed to family and friends by mailing the flyer to over 50 families. The response from the community was incredible! She received donations totaling $685, which she used to purchase 92 items, including toys, books and gift cards for kids of all ages. She collected donations of 64 toys from the collection box at Amity.

Lauren was able to send 5 large boxes, totaling 156 items to St. Jude’s in December, making for a tremendously successful project. She hopes to grow the toy drive for next holiday season.
