When a reader sees something happening in town and asks me about it, I try to get answers as soon as possible.

In this case, the caller asked “What happened near the Duchess Restaurant? It looks like someone was run over by a car or something.”

I called Asst. Police Chief Max Martins and the short version of the event goes like this.

A car broke down at Racebrook and the Boston Post Road on Thursday night.

The male driver wanted to get the car out of the roadway and put it in neutral, then began pushing it, steering it down Racebrook/Indian River with the driver’s door open.

The vehicle picked up momentum as it proceeded down the hill.

Unfortunately, the man lost his footing and fell onto the road, and the car continued rolling on without him.

As he lay in the street, a vehicle being driven up the road from the opposite direction hit him, running over his leg(s) and pelvis.

Emergency personnel attended to the injured man.

His car came to rest near Connecticut Pest Elimination, Inc. on Indian River Road.

The names of the victim and the other driver were not available.

After being introduced a few years ago, the festival quickly became one of the town’s favorite events, and continues to grow with each passing year.

The Food Trucks will line the Orange Fairgrounds, 525 Orange Center Road, on Friday, May 27 from 4-8 p.m.

The food vendors include: Get Your Irish On Food Truck, serving everything Corned Beef; 744 West Bar & Grill; Buzz Truck; Zuppardi’s Pizza; Shoreline Prime. Also trucks with Pierogies, Vietnamese, Californian, Middle Eastern, American Grill, Seafood, Irish food, Grilled Cheese, Stuffed Potatoes, and so many more.

New to the event, but offering a service instead of food is Safe in the Car, LLC, a licensed Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) who offers convenient and personalized car seat installation education at your home or business.

One of the new craft vendors is Hipponotic Candles offering hand-poured candles with only the finest natural ingredients. Made with vegan soybean wax, they burn clean, with almost no residue.

Super Fun Inflatables will be set up to keep the children entertained.

This is going to be another wonderful Food Truck Festival. Mark your Calendars and don’t make any plans for dinner that night!
