A Tornado Watch is in effect for the shoreline counties (Fairfield, New Haven – through New London) until 1 a.m.
A tornado watch is typically issued hours in advance by NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC). It means that conditions are ideal for a tornado to form.
Tornado Watch: Be Prepared!
Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching. Acting early helps to save lives! Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.
If you have advance notice, seek a nearby shelter. If you are in your home when you receive notice, a basement or interior room are best.
If there is no time available, lie flat in the nearest depression, ditch or culvert and cover your head with your arms.
