The Amity Spartans Baseball team traveled to Daniel Hand in Madison for the season opener.

After suffering a hand injury during basketball season, Chris Winkel is back in the game and playing well, he had three hits, including a double. Eli Oliphant had an RBI double.

Amity took a quick lead in the first inning 2-0, Hand scored one run in the third inning 2-1 and Amity made its final run in the eighth inning, finishing off the game with a 3-1 victory.

Amity’s roster this year includes 6 seniors: Yale bound short stop/pitcher Brian Ronai #2; catcher Michael Dietch #8; Pitcher Michael Stewart #10; Pitcher/out fielder Eli Oliphant #16; Out fielder Matthew Tomei #20; and first baseman Chris Winkel #23.

There are __ juniors: second-baseman Andrew Hague #1; second-baseman Christian Cooper #3; second-baseman Matthew Sabitsky #4; Out fielder Adam Hurwitz #6; Pitcher/Out fielder Theodore Hague #7; out fielder Colin Beaulieu #11; Pitcher/third baseman Rohan Patel #18; Pitcher William Butler #19; Pitcher/third baseman Max Scheps #21; Catcher Joshua Crow #24; Outfielder Chase Burzynski #25; and Catcher Alec Smith #29.

Three sophomores round out the team: Pitcher Benjamin Lodewick #17; Third baseman John Nolan #22; and Catcher Patrick Winkel #30.

The boys are away today at Staples for a game at 2 p.m.

They play at home against Shelton on Monday at 3:45 p.m. (unless it’s rained out) and Lyman Hall on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m .
