P&R commissioner Jim Ronai speaks at the Aug. Commission meeting

Brinley Field at Old Tavern Park was not in the best shape during the American Legion Baseball Season this year.

Jim Ronai is not only a member of the Orange Parks and Recreation Commission but also the parent of a legion player, so he saw first-hand, game after game just how hazardous the field could be.

During this week’s Park & Rec Commission meeting the subject of the field came up and it was announced that Brinley Field is being worked on and is shut down until fall baseball begins.

The scoreboard, which some parents and past players treasure for the nostolgia, did not work all last season and it was frustrating for anyone who didn’t have a score sheet or game app, always asking others “What’s the score?” or “What inning is this?”

Fixing the scoreboard is costly and a major project, so the two-part question is … Do we fix the old scoreboard with no guarantee that it will work for a long time OR do we buy a new scoreboard?

Commission Chairman Joe Lembo said when the time comes they should go out for price quotes from companies for both options and then bring it back to the table for discussion.
