This year has become a major challenge for scouting. The pandemic has made meeting and scheduling events difficult, but Troop 12 has succeeded to stay connected successfully so far.

Scouts from Troop 12 recently camped at Camp Pomperaug in Union, CT during the first
weekend of November. The scouts followed all the current COVID rules set by the state and local council and were able to enjoy a beautiful tent camping weekend.

The Troop’s SPL (Senior Patrol Leader), Ben Cap, along with the leaders, helped plan and organize the weekend’s activities. The plan was to work with the newer Boy Scouts on outdoor, nature, and fire building skills.

During the camping trip, scouts Tim Cap and Frankie Cavallaro were the two assigned cooks, cooking for the 15 scouts and leaders in attendance. Both scouts were working towards their cooking merit badge requirements.

Scouts explored the camp and ventured on hiking trails to view the entire camp and the
surrounding lake and small islands.

Boy Scout Troop 12, chartered by the VFW Post 7788, meets at the St. Agnes Church hall every Thursday. Scouts currently belonging to the troop are from Milford and Orange.

Boys in grades 6 through high school can join scouts. Visit the Troop 12 website at

Stop & Shop is now limiting store hours and designating specific times for seniors-only shopping to slow the spread of the coronavirus and keep shoppers healthy.

In a statement, the grocery chain said they are now limiting their store hours to 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The change was made, Stop & Shop says, in an effort to give associates more time to unload inventory and stock shelves.

90 Minutes For Seniors Only

Effective Thursday, March 19, the stores will be offering seniors-only shopping hours from 6-7:30 a.m. Only shoppers over the age of 60 – the most vulnerable group to the virus, according to the CDC – will be permitted at that time.

Big Y also has implemented new hours 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. until further notice.

In a notice on Monday, the store posted, “This will give our store teams time to conduct additional preventive sanitation and restock product on shelves. These are just some of the extra measures Big Y is taking across our entire operation to safeguard the health and well-being of our customers, our associates, and our communities. We appreciate your understanding.”

In addition: Our Hot Bar, Wing Bar, Soup Bar and Olive Bar will be closed until further notice.  We will have Cold Soup and Olive Bar items, Pre-packaged Hot Tenders and Wings, Pre-packaged Hot Soup and Pre-packaged Hot Mac & Cheese available in grab and go containers for your convenience.
