Senior Center Weather Policy

Classes are canceled when the Orange School System closes due to weather. If there is a school delay then only those classes during the delay are canceled. WTNH 8 is the official station for weather cancelations. If you have any questions contact the Senior Center at (203) 891-4784.

Pasta Festa Returns

Join us on Friday, May 15 from 5 – 8pm at the High Plains Community Center for our annual Living Treasure Award Ceremony. The highlight of the evening will be the presentation of this year’s Living Treasure Awards. Winners of the raffle will go home with some great prizes donated by individuals and local businesses. Tables of 8 to 10 are available. Please let us know if you would like to donate a prize for the raffle. Tickets go on sale Monday, April 1 at $25 per person.

Peck Place Prom

Peck Place School will host 10th Annual Senior Prom at the Peck Place School on Friday, April 24 from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm. There will be a buffet style lunch and beverages. This is an actual prom with music and dancing, at no charge, just RSVP to (203) 891-4784. 

How to Help Your Children – A Must Attend Presentation!

Beginner Pickleball

Orange Arts & Cultural Council free Bus to the Symphony 

The orange Arts & Cultural Council are offering a free bus service from High Plains Community Center to Woolsey Hall, New Haven on Sunday April 17 to see Mendelssohn & Brahms. Bus departs High Plains at 6:45pm. To reserve a seat call (203) 397-8915.

New Haven Chamber Orchestra

Beginner PC

Josh will teach a 4-week Intermediate iPads/iPhones class on Wednesday April 1—22. Class fee is $20. Class time is 5pm-7pm. 

Griffin Hospital/Parish Nurse Van

Take control of your health! Come on the RV and have Griffin Hospital RN’s take your blood pressure. High Blood Pressure may have no symptoms at all. Be informed. They will teach you what the blood pressure normally should be and what your reading means. Have an apple also. They will be at the Orange Senior Center on April 28, the 4th Tuesday of the month. 

Afternoon Fun!

Arts & Crafts on Monday, Name 5 or Scattergories on Tuesdays, Mexican Train Dominos on Wednesdays, Bingo on Thursdays, Scrabble on Fridays at 1:00pm in the Cafe. So be sure to come on out and join us and be part of the fun!

AARP Smart Driving Course
The next AARP Driver’s Training course will be Thursday, November 1. The cost of the “AARP Smart Driving Course” will be $15 for AARP members and $20 for non-members.

Introduction to Computers – Learn from an Expert!
Josh from the Town’s IT department has agreed to teach a 4-week Introduction to Computers class for the senior center. The class will be on Thursday, Nov 1—Nov 29 with no class on Nov. 22, Thanksgiving Day. Class fee is $20. Class time is 9:00 am to 11:00am.

Living Treasure Nominations Being Accepted

Nominations are being accepted through March 2, 2018 for the 2018 Living Treasure Awards. The three individuals chosen will be honored at the Living Treasure Award ceremony on May 4, 2018 at Race Brook Country Club in Orange. Forms can be found in the Senior Center office. 

Wellness with Shop Rite

Shop Rite of Orange’s Registered Dietitian, Courtney Huggins, RD will lead a discussion with a tasty dish that she will make right before your eyes. Her recipes are a real crowd pleaser! Join us on Monday, March 5, from 12:00-1:00 pm.

We received word that renovations on the town pool will begin in late August. During that time the pool will be closed. More information to come.

Holiday Door Decorating Contest at HPCC

Clubs, Community Groups, Civic Organizations, Schools and Town Departments are invited to decorate one of the hallway doors at the Community Center for the annual Holiday Door Decorating Contest. Stop by the Community Services office and pick up an entry form. The entry deadline is Nov. 23. All doors need to be decorated by Dec 2. Voting will take place between Dec. 5 and 16. The winner will be announced at the Holiday Cabaret on December 19.

Holiday Dinner Dance

Come join us at the Birchwoods at Oak Lane for our annual Senior Center Holiday Dinner Dance on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 12 to 3:30. The Frank Porto Band will be returning as our musical entertainment from 12:30 to 3:30. Meal choice: Chicken Florentine, Stuffed Sole, or Prime Rib. There will be a cash bar. The cost this year will be $30 per person. Many thanks to the generosity of the Orange Foundation Trust U/A, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, who gave us a grant to pay for the music and to reduce the price of the ticket. Payment and meal choice must be made at the time of reservation. Tables will seat 8 to 10 persons. If you wish to be seated with particular people, payment for the group must be made at the same time. Checks payable to “Treasurer, Town of Orange”. Tickets go on sale Nov 2.

Living Treasure Nominations now being accepted

Nominations are currently being accepted through March 11, 2016 for the 2016 Living Treasure Awards. Nomination forms are available in the Orange Community Services office, Town Hall, and can be printed from the town’s website. The three individuals chosen will be honored at the Senior Center’s Pasta Festa! in May 2017.
