Woodbridge Police Chief Frank Cappiello sent this press release out this afternoon to inform the public of the day’s activities at Amity High School.

This morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Amity Regional High School administrative personnel notified the School Resource Officer that some students and staff had received e-mail messages indicating a possible threat on campus. The Woodbridge Police promptly responded, commenced an investigation, and quickly determined that there was no credible threat imminent to students and faculty.

The ARHS administration made a decision to “shelter in place”, which limits movement throughout the school, and immediately notified parents about the incident. The sharing of the suspicious e-mails amongst students, their parents, and the community via social media prompted the response of a large number of parents to the school to pick up their children.

The Woodbridge Police Department Investigative Services Unit is currently working with federal and state authorities to determine the origin of the threat. Members of the Connecticut State Police, the New Haven Police Department and the Orange Police Department assisted with a police presence at the school.

Amity Regional High School is safe and secure. There will be a police presence at the school for the remainder of the day, as well as an additional police presence at the school tomorrow.
