Pretty Snow Day in Orange

Town buildings, including the transfer station, are closed today as the clean up from Bailey continues.

Most kids around Connecticut still have Home School Work to do, but once they’re done, they can pick up a shovel and help clear the white stuff, or make a snow angel. Light, fluffy snow is easy to shovel, but it doesn’t allow for a good snowman. Perhaps as it melts a bit and gets a little heavier Frosty can take shape in your yard.

In the meantime, enjoy your day off and make sure to clean the snowballs off of your dog’s paws when they come inside. Have some peppermint hot cocoa and make the best of the first snowstorm of this winter.

If you have a fire hydrant in front of your home make sure to clear around it when you shovel your driveway.

It is frigid, so bundle up, wear a mask or two and don’t forget your head covering, warm gloves, thermal socks and waterproof footwear. If you’re old like me, come inside if you feel a little winded, tired, or otherwise overwhelmed with your shoveling while your neighbors quickly clear their driveways with snowblowers or have hired someone to do the job for them.

COVID has taken enough of us this year, don’t let Bailey claim any victims.

snowturkeyThere are conflicting forecasts for the upcoming snowstorm predicted for Wednesday and Thanksgiving.

On WXEdge, Gil Simmons said the storm will begin Wednesday morning as rain mixed with a little snow then changing to wet snow around 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. He said he expects snow during the afternoon and evening across most of the state with some mixing in southeastern CT.

Simmons said temperatures would be at freezing around 32-34 degrees with the wet snow.

He said the storm should be “done and moving out by 4-5 a.m. Thanksgiving morning” — well before the step off of the Rotary Club’s Thanksgiving Day 5K — Then everyone can expect cold and dry weather with increasing sunshine on Turkey Day.

The National Weather Service is predicting snow accumulation of 4 to 8 inches, stating, like Simmons, that a mix of rain and snow Wednesday morning will change to all snow by late Wednesday. But, the NWS goes on to say that, “The snow will continue into early Thursday morning before tapering off to snow showers.”

But what will it really mean for the road race and the Amity Football game? Probably that everyone should dress appropriately for the worst case scenario and whatever you do, drive carefully.

Snow-Day(1)From the Orange BOE:

The Orange Public Schools will be closed tomorrow, January 5.

Because it is after 10 p.m. the Power Announcement will not go out until tomorrow morning.

All other announcement venues are being used tonight for parents’ and staff’s convenience.

Amity also sent out a notice that the Amity Schools are closed.

Bethany schools closed too.

So, I guess Kevin Arnone was dead-on. He predicted there wouldn’t be any school on Wednesday.

I posted this story more than an hour ago. It shows up on one computer, but on my I-phone, I-pad and desktop it was nowhere to be found. so, if it shows up twice for you, now you know why)
