On Tuesday, September 28, members of the CT State Police Statewide Narcotics Task Force and the DEA-New Haven Office coordinated a joint operation on I-95 in the New Haven area to conduct Domestic Highway Enforcement.
This is part of the collaborative efforts of State and Federal Law enforcement agencies working to proactively address the trafficking of opioids, other narcotics, and weapons into the New England area.
As a result, members stopped a 2009 Toyota with Pennsylvania plates for a motor vehicle violation in Orange.
The operator was found to be in possession of approximately 5,238 Fentanyl pills pressed to look like Xanax pills, which weighed a total of 766 grams.
The operator was arrested and transported to Troop G in Bridgeport. He was given a court date at GA#5 in Derby and held on a $200,000 bond.

On Monday, July 8, Connecticut State Police contacted the Orange Police Department regarding having Jonathan X. Velez, 30, of Bradenton FL (a wanted person from the Town of Orange) in custody. 

Orange Police confirmed the active arrest warrant and the CT State Police transported him to the Orange Police Department at 4:40 p.m.   

According to the report, Velez was wanted for Issuing Bad Checks and fifth-degree larceny, stemming from an incident at Greyson’s Guns that occurred on Jan. 2, 2016 incident.  He was taken into custody and charged.

Velez posted $500 bond and released with a court date of July 22.

There was an active police investigation on the I-95 Exit 41 N ramp around 9:30 p.m. til 11:00 p.m.

Because the incident occurred on the ramp it is a state police case and, although Orange officers assisted, any information will come from the state police.

24098745_BG1You may have noticed more State Police out on the road over the Thanksgiving holiday. The CSP supplemented its regular patrols with additional troopers  as part of Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort).

The effort began Wednesday, Nov. 27 and ran through Sunday, Dec. 1 at midnight with police targeting drunken, aggressive and unsafe drivers.

Uniformed troopers used nontraditional patrol cars to observe traffic and issued tickets to reckless, distracted drivers.

Following are the Thanksgiving Statistics for 2013

  • Speeding: 1,134
  • Seatbelt: 170
  • Hazardous Moving: 2,548
  • DUI: 43
  • Accidents: 562
  • Accidents with injury: 92
  • Fatals: 1
  • Total Calls for Service: 10,426

Compare those numbers to the same time frame last year.

  • Speeding: 1,611
  • Seatbelt: 85
  • Hazardous moving: 2,745
  • DUI: 62
  • Accidents: 410
  • Accidents with injury: 59
  • Fatals: 2

An accident at the I-95 N rest stop caused some traffic problems in the immediate area Tuesday afternoon.

An accident at the I-95 N rest stop caused some traffic problems in the immediate area Tuesday afternoon.

If you were out and about today and noticed the traffic jam around the Northbound rest stop on I-95, here’s what happened.

A tractor trailer hit the side of a tanker truck in the exit area behind the buildings.

The Dunkin’ Donuts drive thru and rear section were closed to traffic during the State Police investigation.

The tanker was unmarked, so the contents are unknown to us at this time.
