Orange police responded to Route 34 westbound regarding a motor vehicle accident between an SUV type vehicle and a motorcycle on Saturday, April 13 at 5:23 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found the motorcycle rider had landed in the roadway and lost his helmet. He had suffered a life-threatening head injury. He was given medical treatment on scene and then transported to an area hospital.

The arrestee, later identified as Jerzy Narowski, 63, of West Haven, who was driving the SUV, left the scene.

Witnesses to the incident were able to give officers a description of the vehicle and the events that occurred. Using this information, Derby Police officers located the evading vehicle within their city and stopped it.

Orange police officers responded to Derby, where Narowski was taken into custody. Witnesses described a ‘road-rage’ situation where Narowski and the motorcycle rider reportedly were arguing with each other along Route 34. At some point, Narowski swerved his vehicle into the path of the motorcycle, but the cyclist was able to maintain travel.

The SUV swerved at the motorcycle again, striking it, causing the cyclist to lose control and be ejected from the motorcycle. The cyclist landed on the pavement, where he lost his helmet before coming to a stop.

Narowski was charged with first-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, making an improper lane change, reckless driving, and evading the scene of a motor vehicle accident. He was held on $75,000 bond for court April 15.
