The Amity Spartans hosted the East Haven Yellowjackets at the Bennett Rink in West Haven on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.
First Period
During the first four minutes of gameplay a dark cloud cast a shadow over the Amity fans when East Haven’s Michael Savo made an unassisted goal at 2:58 and then, less than a minute later, he scored again at 3:55 assisted by John D’Albero.
Not to be outdone, Amity forged ahead, passing, intercepting, shooting and then Cam Delvecchio put the Spartans on the scoreboard at 5:26 assisted by Josh Hackett.
As the clock ticked down, Michael Page tied the game at 13:38 assisted by Hackett and Matt Wezonski. Score 2-2
Second Period
There was a lot of back and forth and a so much determination to break that tie throughout the second period. It also was the third of the game with
the most penalties. (4 against East Haven and 2 on Amity).
Both teams tried really hard to score with 10 shots each fired at the net. Then, in one second of glory at 11:20 Hackett stunned East Haven’s goalie Jon-Paul Garea by getting one past him on a power play, assisted by Dante Hardt, pulling the Spartans ahead 3-2.
Third Period
The final period was dominated by the Spartans with the help of Hackett and Delvecchio.
East Haven’s Robert Testa got things started with two minutes in the penalty box for cross checking at just 1:26 after getting onto the ice. He revisited the box at 11:43 for holding — his third and final penalty of the game.
While Testa was still serving time leaving East Haven one man short on the ice, Amity’s Hackett scored on a power play at 12:13, assisted by
Delvecchio and Dean Gattinella.
Just 21 seconds later, it was Delvecchio’s turn to score his second goal of the game, once again assisted by Hackett.
Final Score: Amity 5, East Haven 2
Records: Amity 2-1, East Haven 1-2
Keep up the great teamwork boys! (and stay out of the penalty box!)
