The Case Memorial Library, 176 Tyler City Road, offers the following activities for children, tweens, and adults This month and in early April.

March Madness: Tournament of Chocolates

Monday, March 13-Saturday, March 18

For teens in grades 7-12. Which candy is the champion of chocolate? Find out in our March Madness tournament of chocolates. Take home a kit with 16 different chocolate candies to taste and vote for your favorites in our online elimination tournament. Pickup dates: March 13-18. Online voting: March 23-April 3. Registration is required.

Take and Make: Shamrock Rings

Monday, March 13-Saturday, March 18

For children ages 6-8 years. Use pipe cleaners to make two different types of shamrock rings! Use it for a touch of green on March 17th or to bring you luck all year round. Kits can be picked up in the children’s room between Monday, March 13, and Saturday, March 18.

Preschool Playtime

Saturday, March 18, 10:30 a.m.

For children ages 2-5 years. Take the playground inside! Come play at our homemade obstacle course designed just for preschoolers. We’ll build with blocks, go through tunnels, and jump in and out of hula hoops while going around and around the meeting room.

Tween Book Bags: Graphic Novels

Monday, March 20-Saturday, March 25

For tweens in grades 4-6. No one is too old for comics! Tell us what you like to read, and we’ll check you out a graphic novel from our collection. You’ll also get some goodies to help you start your own story and a snack to keep you drawing. Due to their popularity, no Dog Man or Big Nate books will be given. Registration is required; kit pickups will take place between Monday, March 20, and Saturday, March 25.

March Madness: Mini Basketball Game

Tuesday, March 23, 3:45 p.m.

For children ages 6-10. Can’t get enough March Madness? Make your own portable basketball game! Join us after school for some crafting and gameplay. This event will take place on Thursday, March 23 at 3:45 p.m. in the craft room.

Tween STEAM: Shield Design

Monday, March 27, 3:45 p.m.

For tweens ages 9 – 12. Craft and design the perfect cardboard shield and test it out against an onslaught of enemies! This program will take place in the Meeting Room on Monday March 27 at 3:45pm.

Ban This Book! Club: Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You

Monday, March 27, 7 p.m.

Stamped: Racism, Anti-Racism, and You by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi was the most frequently challenged book of 2020. Join librarian Rebecca and co-leader Elizabeth Ewen as we discuss this as a work of literature as well as an object of censorship. This program will be held in the Meeting Room at the Library. Rosie the Riveter

“Rosie the Riveter” became an iconic image of working women during World War II. What was it really like for them? We’ll look at propaganda posters, art, music, photos, and hear real-life accounts of Connecticut women who worked for victory in the war. Presented by Natalie Beranger from the CT Historical Society.
