A second grader from Orange was honored in the 19th Annual eesmarts ™ Student Contest at the Connecticut Science Center on May 7.
More than 600 students throughout Connecticut submitted projects for consideration. Twenty-nine entries from 19 schools in 16 Connecticut communities were selected as this year’s finalists.
Molly Kovar’s entry, a poster, which depicted ways to save energy around the house like taking short showers, turning off the lights and electronics, using LED light bulbs and installing solar panels, received second-place for her grade category.
Presented by Energize Connecticut℠ in partnership with Eversource and Avangrid subsidiaries, United Illuminating, Southern Connecticut Gas and Connecticut Natural Gas, the eesmarts Student Contest invited Connecticut students in grades K-12 to showcase their energy smarts.
Contest directions for second-graders were as follows:
Create a poster that shows how you can help save energy around your house (for instance, turning off a light or TV when you’re not using it). Use your imagination and show what you’ve learned about saving energy!
- Posters must be between 11″ x 17″ and 18″ x 24″ in size
- There is no restriction on tools used (crayons, watercolor, markers, pastels, etc.
Molly’s family accompanied her to the ceremony where she received a certificate and a $250 Amazon Gift Card.
Congratulations on your hard work and knowledge of energy conservation. We are so proud of you, Molly!
