Daisy Scouts Enjoy A Hands-On Historic Baking Lesson

Girl Scout Daisy Troop #60226 visited the historic Bryan-Andrew home in Orange on Sunday, February 5. The 15 Daisy scouts were avid bakers and investigators as they learned about life in the historic home and followed a colonial recipe for “Apple Charlotte” that was baked on the hearth.

Under the guidance of the Orange Historical Society President Ginny Reinhard and volunteers from the society, the young scouts measured out brown sugar and spices, peeled apples, zested the lemons, broke up bread and layered the various ingredients in a cast iron Dutch oven for baking.

While the Charlotte baked, the girls toured the home and after the tour, the girls enjoyed eating their creations – served warm with vanilla ice cream.

The Bryan-Andrew home is available for hearth-cooked lunches/dinners and hearth-cooking lessons by appointment. To learn more about the menu and availability, please go to www.orangehistory.org or call 203-795-3106 and leave a message.
