Children’s Summer Reading Kickoff: Boogie Chillun’

Saturday, June 18, 10:30 a.m.
For children and families of all ages. Go on a magical journey through the rich music history of the United States with Boogie Chillun’! This concert experience transcends all boundaries, cultures, races, creeds, and colors. Please be advised that this concert will be held outside on the Library lawn (weather permitting.) In the event of inclement weather, this event will be moved to the Meeting Room. Registration is required.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “I Dissent”

Saturday, June 18, 1:30 p.m.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s life was one of achievement: as a lawyer, professor of law, a judge, and then a Supreme Court justice. She stands out because she was not afraid to dissent, disapprove, and disagree with conditions of unfairness and inequality. This show by historical reenactor Sheryl Faye is the inspiring story of how she changed her life—and ours. This program will be held on the back lawn of the library. Please bring your own chair. The program will be preceded by a business meeting of the Friends of the Library at 1 p.m. Presented by the Friends of the Library for their annual meeting.

Bicentennial Bites Take & Make: Baked Pudding

Monday, June 20

For all ages. Make a baked pudding recipe from the time of the town’s founding and learn some fascinating New England food history. Registration is required. Participants must supply their own quart of whole milk (or half-and-half), 3 small eggs (or 2 extra large), 1 stick plus 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter with extra for greasing baking dish, and a 2-or-3-quart baking dish. Please select your preferred pickup date upon registering.

Take and Make: DIY Nature Journals

Monday, June 20

For children ages 6-12. Make your own nature journal! We’ll provide you a blank notebook with a blank brown cover you can decorate, a pencil, and a pencil sharpener. You’ll also get information on nature in Orange and Connecticut in general, as well as a variety of ideas of how to use your new nature journal. Pick the style and subject that you like, whether it’s exploring your backyard or capturing memories on vacation!

Kit pickups will take place in the Children’s Room between Monday, June 20 and Saturday, June 25. Registration is required.

Oscar Films: Dune

The story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. 2 hr. 36 min. PG-13. Registration is required for all Oscar films. Please note that all indoor library program plans have been reviewed by the Orange Health Department for COVID-19 safety compliance. The Library may alter or cancel this program with minimal notice if health guidance changes after plans have been scheduled.

Teen Oreo Tournament

Saturday, June 25
For rising 7th-12th graders. Did you know there are more than 16 different flavors of Oreos? Have you ever wondered which tastes best? Join our Oreo taste-test and bracket tournament for teens and find out! Your kit includes 16 different flavors of Oreos and a tournament bracket. Try them at home then vote on your favorites in an online elimination tournament! Instructions for voting will be included in your kit. This is a take-home event for teens. Please be cool – don’t register adults or children (going into grade 6 or younger). Kits will be available for pickup between Saturday, June 25 and Friday, July 1 at the first floor service desk. Voting begins Saturday, July 2.

Teen Summer Reading Kickoff: Treasure Hunt and Pizza Party

Saturday, June 25, 1 p.m.

For rising 7th-12th graders. Teams will solve riddles that lead to the next clue in our first library treasure hunt for teens! Solve puzzles, eat pizza, and enjoy some yummy cotton candy too. Registration is required. This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Case Memorial Library.
